The Prescott Gem and Mineral Club celebrates 21 years of gems, geology and hands-on fun with its annual Prescott Gem & Mineral Show happening Aug. 1-3 at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, 3201 N. Main St.
What started in 2004 as a small tailgate-style gathering has grown into Northern Arizona’s largest indoor rock show, featuring more than 75 vendors from across the western U.S. You’ll find everything from rare mineral specimens and fossils to handmade jewelry, beads and lapidary tools.
New this year will be live jewelry-making demos and mini-classes where visitors can see lapidary artists in action and try beginner techniques themselves.
The show also features a stunning array of member exhibits, a fluorescent mineral booth with lasers and ultraviolet light, and a fun-filled Kids’ Zone with geode cracking, games and real dinosaur fossils — even coprolite (fossilized poop!).
“This show represents the heart and soul of our club,” says Club President John Munday. “It’s a great way to connect with the community.”
Visitors also can learn about the club’s year-round activities, including field trips, workshops, scholarships and more. Membership is open to all ages and experience levels.
The show runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, veterans and students. Kids younger than 12 are free.
