2022 marked Empty Bowls’ 25th anniversary in Prescott, and after a two-year hiatus was back on the Courthouse Plaza! The event was held Sept. 18 at the Yavapai Courthouse Plaza, and the turnout was better than organizers anticipated.
People were able to select a handcrafted bowl made by local artists and two soups from 12 local restaurants.
A raffle of custom-made silver
items helped the event raise money for local food banks, as well. Art objects, created by Prescott area artists were part of an online auction. Bidding opened on Sept.10 and closed Sept. 25.
Organizers asked local businesses for financial sponsorships, a first for Empty Bowls. Contributions were broken down into three tiers:
– Silver Bowl — The Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge No. 1
– Silver Ladle — Prescott Import Car Service, El Gato Azul, Torme
– Silver Spoon — Karyl Moore HomeSmart Realty, Ocean’s Three Talent Group, Van Gogh’s Ear Fine Art Gallery, Premier Eye Center, Peregrine Book Co., Raven Café.
In addition to our silver sponsors we would like to thank these local businesses that contributed to our event: Credit Union West, U-Haul Moving and Storage of Prescott, Panera Bread, Pangea Bakery and Café, Grama’s Bakery, Hotcakez Baking Co., Better Deal Printing and Marju Graphics.
We want to thank Leslie Matiacio, Amanda Chartier and Ann Hein from the Prescott High School Fine Arts Department for assisting Prescott High students in a 25th Anniversary logo contest. The winning logo, illustrated by Jay Robertson, was put on commemorative T-shirts and tote bags sold at the event.
Entertainment was provided by Sucha Ruckus, who helped keep people in the line energized!
A huge thank you goes out to Mayor Phil Goode and Councilman Brandon Montoya (pictured above) for proclaiming September 18, 2022 Prescott Empty Bowls Day.
After everything is said and done, organizers anticipate distributing approximately $20,000 to local area food banks in 2022. For a list of recipient food banks from 2021 please go to our website below.
Thank you to everyone that turned out at the Courthouse Plaza on September 18, and we hope to see you again next year!
