Geology Talks: Identifying and Mapping Landslides in Arizona

March 10, 2020 @ 6:00 pm

In 2014 the Arizona Geological Survey began compiling data to create a statewide landslide inventory (AzSLID – Arizona Statewide Landslide Inventory Database). We were surprised to discover just how numerous and widespread landslide processes are throughout AZ. Hear Joe Cook, Arizona Geological Survey, University of Arizona research geologist, discuss how the AZGS is refining our landslide mapping from north of Phoenix to Flagstaff along Interstate 17. This new study combines new topographic datasets, field mapping, and drone aerial photography. Geology Talks is hosted by the Central Arizona Geology Club and presented with funding from the Friends of the Prescott Public Library. This event includes an opportunity to “show and tell” and ask questions of Geology Club members.
