Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group performed a night of country, swing, folk and blues March 8 at the Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center on Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus.
Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic artists.
His 14 award-winning albums and critically acclaimed live shows highlight more than the Texas legend’s talent. They also illustrate the diversity of his musical influences. Lovett’s work fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner, making him one of popular music’s most compelling and captivating performers.
Lyle Lovett’s four Grammy awards — Best Country Album (The Road to Ensenada, 1996); Best Country Duo/Group with Vocals (Blues for Dixie with Asleep at the Wheel, 1994); Best Pop Vocal Collaboration (Funny How Time Slips Away with Al Green, 1994); and Best Country Male Vocalist (1989) — illustrate the diversity of his skills and the popularity of his work.
He has won a host of other awards and accolades, including the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award and was named Texas State Musician.
