The annual Prescott Martin Luther King Peace and Justice March and Celebration will be held on Jan. 15 with the theme “Love in Action” to reflect Dr. King’s belief that all actions should be motivated by love.
Marchers will assemble at the Prescott College Welcome Center and march around the Courthouse Square to the musical accompaniment of Meg Bohrman and the Galactagogues, concluding at the Prescott United Methodist Church on Gurley Street.
A program of dynamic speakers, music and celebration will be held at the church. Area youth will participate by reading their own poetry, speaking to the theme of “Love in Action.”
Opening remarks will be made by Pastor Lesli McGowan of Prescott United Methodist Church and civil rights advocate James Kimes. The Rainbow Acres Choir, Womansong, Quad City Interfaith Choir and Meg Bohrman and the Galactagogues will provide musical inspiration.
In two break-out sessions afterward, Dr. Kelly Lambert, keynote speaker, and Truth B. Told, Spoken Word speaker, will lead discussions on MLK’s legacy.
Attendees will be encouraged to sign up for community service projects organized by Arizona Serve and the MLK Committee.
