One Stage Family Theatre hosted three performances of the classic Jonathan Larson musical “Rent” April 14-15, the first time the 1995 Broadway production has been staged in Prescott. Based loosely on Puccini’s “La Boheme,” it follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
The Elks Theatre was an impressive setting for the musical as the energetic cast performed “Seasons of Love,” “La Vie Boheme” and dozens of other songs and interludes. Described as a “passion project,” “Rent” gave performers a chance to push themselves to new heights.
