Cinco de Mayo bounced and grooved inside Yavapai College’s Jim and Linda Lee Performing Arts Center as the Cabaret series closed out for the season with Sofrito and the Blues. This Latin quartet is fronted by Carmen Elisa Cancél, a genre-spanning Puerto Rican talent known locally as a guest soloist in YC Performing Arts’ biannual production of Handel’s Messiah. She and Latin Grammy-winning musicians César Orozco, Juancho Herrera and Jainardo Batista brought a spellbinding program with fresh, vibrant arrangements of Latin, jazz and blues classics to 120 fans treated to intimate onstage seating.
