Prescott Now: How long have you guys been playing together?
Well dressed Wolves: We formed the band in June 2004. June 2023 will mark 19 years.
Prescott Now: What genre or genres of music do you play?
Well dressed Wolves: We are a rock band, and we definitely favor rock-related genres not only as a band but individually as music lovers. When we formed, our immediate common ground were bands like The Who, Cream, Oasis and The Beatles, but at the same time, we all loved bands like Foo Fighters, The Strokes and White Stripes.
We were both intrigued not
only by classic artists, but of what was happening at the present date. Listening to the sheer power of an album like Live at Leeds by The Who, the dynamic push of pull between all four members, the intensity, it shook us.
At the same time, we were listening to albums like Aha Shake Heartbreak by Kings of Leon or Is This It? by The Strokes, and totally fanboying over that music.
We knew we wanted to take the styles of the ‘60s and ‘70s and mesh it with more current rock energy volume and power.
Prescott Now: What is the key to being a successful musical act in Prescott and Northern Arizona?
Well dressed Wolves: We formed out of the Verde Valley, Camp Verde/Cottonwood areas, and we came up out of the small local scene from there and just said “Yes” to a lot of show opportunities.
It always made sense to us that the more we played out, the more we got our name out and slowly, bit by bit, we built a little following, made friends with local artists (friends we’re grateful to have to this day) who helped us out on our journey.
Our life blood as a band is being on stage, feedback in tow, ready to play to as many people as possible. I credit our current status as a band mainly to our reputation as a live band, and the fact that we play a lot of shows.
Prescott Now: What’s the smallest audience you’ve played for; the biggest?
Well dressed Wolves: Back in 2012, we got a gig out in Black Canyon City, playing for a taco truck, and six patrons more enthralled with their carne asada tacos than our rendition of “People Are Strange” by The Doors. Little did we know the owner of the taco truck was dear friends with the owners of the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, S.D.
After playing a near four-hour show to two to six people and getting paid in tacos, we were a little skeptical of this man and his “connections.”
Less than a week later, I got a phone call and it was that owner of the taco truck saying he was on the phone with the Buffalo Chip. Less than a year after playing to a few people in Black Canyon City, we were on a stage at the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, playing to a crowd upward of 1,000.
I think objectively the biggest crowd we played to was in June 2022 when we played the Prescott Square in front of the Courthouse. I think it was 2,000-plus people. Insane!
Prescott Now: What brought you to Prescott?
Well dressed Wolves: Our history with Prescott goes back to 2011. The first place to open their doors to us was the original Bird Cage Saloon. Since, we built a “home away from home” in Prescott.
The Prescott music scene immediately welcomed us in with open arms. To this day, more so now than ever, it’s a rich and beautiful community of artists with an uncontainable amount of talent.
The town has a vibe that is totally its own.
